Summer Performance: Dancing at the Antique Show in John Dam Plaza

July 27, 2024 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Dancing at the Antique Show in John Dam Plaza – July 27, 2024

Come join us for a morning of dance at the HUNT & GATHER VINTAGE IN THE PARK SHOW in John Dam Plaza, between Jadwin Ave. and George Washington Way in Richland (NOTE – this is NOT Art in the Park at Howard Amon Park).

Full costume Show!

BE HYDRATED in the days LEADING UP TO THE SHOW!  Dancers drink 60-80 oz of water per day in the 3-5 days leading up to the show.  Waiting to drink water on the day of the show will be too late to prevent overheating.

To help dancers stay cool, you are welcome to bring cooling cloths and/or misters.  Small hand towels are good for dancers in multiple routines. SMART WATER is recommended as it has electrolytes and won’t stain costumes. Cool water is ok but heavy ice water is NOT advised as it cannot be used in case of emergency.

Before you leave the house – have hair & makeup done. Eat a good, healthy breakfast. Apply sunscreen. Bring WATER. Allow extra time to travel and park as this on Hydro weekend and the Art in the Park events.  You can park at the south end of John Dam Plaza or across the street in the Federal Building Parking Lot.

PARENTS – You may want to pack light, healthy, CLEAN snacks as this is a long morning. You are welcome to bring lawn chairs or blankets to watch the show and invite guests. Blankets are also recommended for your dancer’s class to sit ‘backstage’ between routines.

DANCERS – REMAIN IN THE STAGING AREA. Do not walk in front of the stage or hang out behind the stage. Do not run around the audience during the show. The audience can see everything happening around the stage, so please be on your most professional behavior. Be lined up ‘backstage’ and ready for bows at the end.

Everyone help clean up the area, tear down the floor, sound equipment and changing areas, load the van and check for water bottles, etc.  Many hands make light work, and the older dancers very much appreciate that they can change and recover after the show while parents/volunteers take care of this.

9:00 – Spotter for the van in place and ready to help the van driver maneuver across the park.  Please reply if you can be the spotter.
9:15 – Set floor, sound system, and dressing area/tent – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR THIS; please reply if you will help.  See FLOOR SET Instructions at the end of this note. We need at least 8-10 people to help set & tear down the floor, canopies, and sound system.  It takes two people to carry & set each board, at least 4-6 people to tape the floor, and 4 people to set the canopies.  Please bring an umbrella (standing or clamp) if you have one, for our sound tech.

9:30 – ALL DANCERS & CLOGGERS READY and warming up at the Stage Area near the North end of John Dam Plaza. Dress appropriately for outdoor changes with minimal to no privacy.

10:00-11:30 – Show Time!  Actual duration depends on number of routines.
11:30ish – Tear down floor, sound system & changing tent.  Be sure to put things away carefully so they are ready for the next show. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR THIS; please text or email us that you can help.

Bring ALL costumes. Wear tights, leotard or biketard, black leggings/shorts/pants, blue studio t-shirts or clogging shirts if you have them to/from venue.

DANCERS – hair in neat bun.  Dancers who are not in a ballet routine may wear their hair the same as the cloggers.
CLOGGERS – hair side-parted low ponytail; secured away from the face with a BLACK hair band. No fly aways
Makeup for all – Light makeup, berry lipstick. Remember water, sunscreen, and blankets to sit on in the backstage area. Face towels, cooling cloths, misters are also encouraged.

Floor set instructions – adjust as needed based on how the event is laid out this year. Dancers are okay to dance off the stage if needed for larger routines.

Set the floor facing East on the largest section of the brick sidewalk and in as much shade as possible. See the picture at the top of the page for reference.  This is typically a 24′ W x 16′ D floor.  The boards are 4 x 8, so this will be 12 boards total.  Rough side goes down; smooth side up.  Try to place boards with worn corners on the outer edges and boards that appear the least slick in the center of the stage.

Connect the boards with the white duct tape.  Use ONE piece of tape for the full length of the seams and run the tape a few inches off the ends of the boards to attach the tape to the side walk. Do not stretch the tape too tight.  Have dancers walk the tape to fully secure it to the boards.  Several dancers and parents know how to do this, so EVERYONE please help!
